Your drive chain flings sticky, dirty chain wax directly onto the sensor assembly. Over time, this forms a thick paste that physically prevents the sensor pin from popping back out when you retract the stand. The bike thinks the stand is still down!
Because the sensor is exposed to rain and pressure washes, water loves to creep into the plastic wire connector. Corroded green copper pins break the electrical loop, triggering a permanent faulty side stand sensor reading on your ECU.

Grab a can of degreaser or electrical contact cleaner and an old toothbrush. Scrub away all the caked-on chain grease, mud, and road grit around the kickstand pivot hinge until the mechanical plunger moves freely.
Kick the stand up and down while looking closely at the sensor. Is the metal tab actually hitting the sensor button full-force? If the tab is bent from a previous drop or parking tilt, gently bend it back into alignment with pliers.
Follow the thin wire coming off the sensor up toward the frame. Unplug the plastic connector, check for rusty or burnt pins, spray it with contact cleaner, and snap it tightly back together.
